The Therapy Fund

The Therapy Fund

This program is now closed. We are in the process of raising funds to continue this program!

The Therapy Fund was created to help cover the cost of Therapy for Black Women, Women of Color, and Youth of Color. These funds are not limited to Black Women or Women/Youth of Color. But we will prioritize Black Women and Women/Youth of Color. Although, we are based in Northwest Arkansas we also reserve a handful of funds for Black Women and Women/Youth of Color outside of Northwest Arakansas.

Remember these words of Dr. Maya Angelou, " There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you."

Tell your story... find your words.

The Need

This Counseling Voucher program will allow for Black Women, Women of color and youth to apply to the Therapy Fund as long as funds are available. We believe that this program could meet the needs locally and nationally for women of color and youth who need counseling but are struggling financially to access it. This program will prioritize women of color who apply but is not limited to women/youth of color only.

The Process

A woman or youth who identifies as Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and Asian-Pacific Islander community seeking counseling can apply to our Counseling Voucher Program. They will provide basic demographic information, presenting issues for seeking counseling, and answer a short questionnaire regarding their hope for having therapy from another woman who shares their ethnic identity in the community.

As an organization, we will vet any therapist to ensure they are licensed with the board of Arkansas. We will also send a follow up survey to the woman seeking counseling in order to see if the client continued with services.

The Impact

We began the Therapy Fund in a pilot form in the Spring of 2023. We have seen many youth and women of color seeking counseling support and struggling to afford it. We believe that if we could raise money for our Therapy Fund we could help even more women and youth of color gain access to quality mental health from a professional who also understands their cultural background. In the Spring of 2023 we were able to help 27 women and youth obtain 4 free counseling sessions. We paid their clinicians $160 per session. We spent over $17,280 to help Black Women, Women of Color and Youth of color gain access to FREE mental health services. Outside of this program called the Therapy Fund, we used the other $32,000 from the grant to help us gain professional development, host several local and online programing in Northwest Arkansas, speak locally at other universities and institutions on mental health and Black Women, and we used these funds to help us gain our official non-profit status. We hope to bring the Therapy Fund back in 2025 so that we can help even more women and youth seeking counseling support. Our goal is to reach 150 women and youth through our Therapy Fund. You can help us by donating today.
